What am I doing… NOW?

Work-Life
I’ve been slowly working to growing DGW into the business I envisioned years ago. This year, you may find me as a speaker talking more about wine appreciation and enjoyment. This has been an intentional shift and I’m hoping that it will help me engage with more people.
I am also working with a contractor to develop a DGW podcast. I know everyone has a podcast, but I have been considering the fact that some people prefer to learn by sound (as opposed to reading), while also keeping in mind that few have time to sit and watch lots of webinars. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that we are able to drop this new project to the public sometime this year!
Finally, new science-based content is coming to DGW. I’m actively working on a blog series that debunks a lot of ideas winemakers having about making quality wine. I’m going back to enological fundamentals and writing out all the answers we currently have from science. This is a really exciting topic for me to write about and I’m eager to share this via The Winemakers’ Blog.
In life:
The 2023 year left me with some clear goals for 2024! I’ve been practicing some ways to be more intentional with my own inability to balance both work and life. This year, I gave myself a goal to incorporate more weekly exercise, as I know I need this for both my physical and mental health. It does come with some sacrifices (like rearranging my work schedule and learning to accept doing less in every factor of my life), but I’m hoping the long-term outcomes will be better for me, my family, and working collaborators.
With that in mind, I listen to a lot of podcasts. Here are some of my favorites:
- The Happiness Lab
- Momwell
- Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend
- Freakonomics
- People I, Mostly, Admire
- Here’s Where it Gets Interesting
- Vineyard Underground (hosted by my friend and colleague, Fritz Westover!)
As a mom, I’ve really enjoyed a slower winter in which we took time to appreciate the snow days and the colder weather. In January and February, we finally finished organizing a place space for our daughter – something we have been trying to do for a full year! We’re also participating in a reading challenge with our local library. I have to admit, we’ve found some really fun books through this activity. Some of her/our favorite picture books (for ages 3ish – 8ish) include:
As the months begin to warm, we’ve been spending more time outside on long family walks in nature, scootering, or visiting local attractions. I’m looking forward to some fun Spring and Summer activities!
As we turn the corner into Spring, I’m wishing all of you a fruitful and balanced growing season.
